Doha: Qatar’s national player Salama Al Khulaifi earned a creditable fourth position at the Asian Amateur Chess Championship in Muscat, Oman.
As many as 50 players representing 13 countries took part in the event which concluded on Wednesday. Qatar’s delegation was headed by international referee Youssef Khalil Al Mahasna and national coach Hussein Aziz.
Al Khulaifi scored 6 and a half points from nine matches after winning five games and drawing three besides losing one match. Also, Qatar’s Ghada Al Khelaifi scored 6 points while Aisha Al Khelaifi scored 4 and a half points in the match.
President of the Qatar Chess Federation (QCF) Mohammed Al Madahka congratulated Al Khulaifi for securing fourth spot in a tough competition.
He said QCF is keen to support players’ participation in such events, which will help them gain valuable experience.
