Doha: Speakers in the Green Tent of the “A Flower Each Spring” programme praised the medical system in Qatar and the material and moral support received by the chronically ill, especially those who lose their jobs for a long period of treatment, affirming the superiority of Qatar and its very advanced rank in health care in the world, which is an essential pillar of the well-being of society.
During a symposium held by the “Green Tent” via video conference, the speakers discussed the topic of chronic diseases and their relationship to fasting, reviewing the psychological effects of the patient not fasting, the risks and consequences of the patients ignoring doctor’s advice, and the legitimate licenses of the chronically ill in Ramadan, with the participation of a group of doctors, religious scholars and opinion holders from Qatar and other Arab countries.
The participants in the symposium, which was chaired by Head of the “A Flower Each Spring” programme Dr. Saif Ali Al Hajri talked about the penance required of those with chronic diseases and the elderly and the legal licenses like sickness and travel, stressing that if fasting results in harm, it is obligatory to break the fast, because the legal rulings are based on several things, including the interest of the patient.
The participants in the symposium touched on the importance of continuous education for those with chronic diseases, such as the mechanisms of action of medicines, the effect of fasting on their health and seizures due to low blood sugar, noting that this education is the responsibility of health, media and religious institutions, each in its field of specialisation.
The participants in the symposium drew attention to the tremendous development in the field of medicine, which made all diseases curable, which includes early detection, prevention methods, medical devices and modern treatments, noting that some medications require breaking the fast due to the patient’s acute need for fluids.
They explained that the most dangerous types of cancer for the fasting person are those that affect the digestive system and kidneys.
