Cuba dominated the women’s discus throw at the IAAF World Championships with Yaime Pérez and Denia Caballero walking away with the gold and silver medals at the Khalifa International Stadium on Friday.

And there is no ‘secret’ formula on Cuba winning the top two places. Both the Cuban medallist gave credit to the Cuban Athletics Federation and to their respective coaches.

“There are no secrets, we have great coaches and we work really hard to achieve great results. I also want to thank the managers and the directors of the Federation,” said Perez.

Perez said she was nervous heading the competition.

“I was a Little be nervous, but now I am very happy that I made it to the podium. It was a very difficult competition, but I am very thankful to God that I won.”

Caballero, the silver medal winner said: “We worked really hard to make it to the podium.”

“There is no secret. We are the best and we always compete with our heart and this what makes us excellent. We have excellent coaches,” Caballero said.

“We all felt we could win the gold, it was close, but we are all winners whether if what we gain was gold, silver or bronze,” she added.

Sandra Perković of Croatia won bronze in the event.
