DOHA: The ongoing Russian Energy Week Forum (REF) in Moscow witnessed a call to the countries involved in the global gas market to join the Doha-based Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF).

This proposal was supported by the Minister of Energy and Industry of Qatar, H E Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, according to GECF.
“I would like to remind you that Russian President Vladimir Putin once initiated the establishment of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum. We support this organisation and support new members’ enlistment, as well as countries which are now Observers to step up their participation and become full-fledged members of the GECF,” said Alexander Novak.
Novak also addressed the ministers present at the panel session, and encouraged them to consider GECF Membership.
“There are a lot of ministers representing their countries here today, and I urge you to join the organization. In our opinion, all gas producers and exporters, as well as other active players, should join—as the goals and objectives that the GECF endeavours to pursue are of paramount importance for reliable gas supply at the global level,” he added.
The Doha-based Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) is an international governmental organization which provides the framework for exchanging experience and information among Member Countries.
GECF is a gathering of the world’s leading gas producers and was set up as international governmental organization with the objective to increase the level of coordination and strengthen the collaboration among Member countries.
GECF also seeks to build a mechanism for a more meaningful dialogue between gas producers and gas consumers for the sake of stability and security of supply and demand in global natural markets.
