BERLIN: The ninth edition of Qatar’s international Business and Investment Forum will kick-start at Maritim Hotel here today with a high-level networking gala dinner.

The event will be attended by H E Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs; Eric Schweitzer, President, Association of  German Chambers of Commerce; Akber Al Baker, CEO, Qatar Airways and high profile public and private sector representatives from Qatar and Germany.

The Forum is held at a time when Qatar’s investment in Germany exceeds €25bn and includes vital projects in the automotive, information technology and banking sector, and a common desire to promote and develop mutual investments.

Investments in private sector and collaborations in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are expected to be one of the key highlight of the Forum.

Ahead of the Forum, Qatar’s private sector players and sovereign investment entities have evinced interests in Germany’s  “Mittelstand” manufacturing companies, which covers a whole range of  small and medium-sized companies in Germany which provide a large number of jobs and are extremely productive.

The National Committee, which is organising the forum, said the Berlin edition of the event will highlight major projects to be implemented in Qatar and Germany in the commercial, economic, investment and construction sectors.

The aim of the forum is to further enhance the Qatari-German bilateral relations in all areas, which will be discussed during the panel sessions that cover all economic sectors.

The organisers also seek to promote Qatar’s role and economic status along with the vast privileges offered to the foreign investors, especially in the value-added sectors that respond to Qatar National Vision 2030, and support the shift towards a knowledge-based economy.
