Doha, Qatar: The Medical Affairs Division of Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has received Accreditation Canada Diamond Level, following a successful final audit of the four Workers’ Health Centers operated by QRCS in strategic partnership with Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health (MoPH).
QRCS received the Accreditation Canada Platinum Level in March 2023.
The three-year accreditation process verified the organisation’s adoption of internationally recognised scientific practices and policies, consistently applied by all medical and administrative staff members.
The assessment outcomes demonstrated sound and effective underlying principles, through policy enforcement, standardised procedures, and engagement of patients and staff in the design of care.
Acting Secretary-General of QRCS, Abdullah Sultan Al-Qatan (pictured) said, “This certification is not only a testimony to the Accreditation Canada Platinum Level we earned three years ago, but also clearly proves our continuous pursuit of excellence, quality, and operational discipline. Since its establishment in 1978, QRCS has built up a strong legacy as a key player in Qatar’s humanitarian, social, development, and medical landscape”.
“Such an international recognition bolsters the government’s trust in our merits,” said Al-Qatan. “For 16 years now, we have been working with MOPH on the operation of Workers’ Health Centers. QRCS is a leading primary health care provider for expatriate workers — a group of particular social importance given its potion of the population and diverse health, language, and cultural needs.
According to Assistant CMO of Medical Affairs Division, Dr. Mohamed Faouzi Al-Abdiad the performance assessment was based on nine criteria, divided into two categories as Comprehensive System-Level Criteria (organisational quality and safety); and Service-Level Quality Standards (Specific Clinical Services.
In addition to these standards, the Medical Affairs Division completed the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality’s (AHRQ) Survey on Patient Safety Culture (SOPS), a standardised tool to measure staff perceptions regarding safety. The Accreditation Canada assessment team reviewed these results during their field inspection visit.
Head of Quality Control at Medical Affairs Division of QRCS, Joanna Marie Alvaro stated, “Reaching Diamond took three things: leadership that treated quality as a strategic priority, teams that collaborated across sites and held themselves accountable, and the technical and clinical competence to deliver consistently. This achievement belongs to the staff at our Workers’ Health Centers, who meet that standard every day, in every language our patients speak. Our commitment now is not simply to hold this level, but to keep raising what our patients can expect from us”.
In strategic partnership with MoPH, QRCS operates four Workers’ Health Centers: Al-Hemailah (New Industrial Area), Mesaimeer (Mesaimeer), Fereej Abdul Aziz (Doha), and Zekreet (Dukhan).
These health facilities offer a wide range of services across more than 20 clinical specialties, including 24/7 services like emergency care, general clinics, pharmacy, laboratory, and radiology.
In 2025, the centers received a total of 1,460,696 patients, while in the first six months of this year alone, 823,362 patients were served.
In terms of continuing professional development (CPD), the Medical Affairs Division at QRCS has been accredited by MOPH as a certified CPD provider, with 208 training courses delivered during 2025, at a +98% feedback rate across all areas.
