Qatar seeks to support parties to nuclear talks to reach fair agreement for all: FM

Tehran: The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said that Qatar seeks to support the parties to the talks on the revival of the nuclear accord to reach a fair agreement for all, taking into account the concerns of all parties.

In a joint press conference held with HE Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran Dr. Hossein Amir Abdollahian, the FM stated that his visit to Tehran comes amid numerous regional challenges, saying that it is very critical to have constructive efforts from all the neighboring countries to have successful nuclear negotiations and regional dialogues.

The FM further stated that he had heard from the Iranian minister his country's confirmation on the importance of all parties' commitment to engage in a nuclear agreement.

HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed that the state of Qatar supports and encourages the dialogue between Iran and the countries in the region, which would evidently achieve positive results for the interest of the peoples in the region.

HE Sheikh Mohammed said Qatar wants prosperous ties with its neighboring countries which would essentially benefit the peoples of the region, explaining that the bilateral relations gained a momentum during his talks with HE the Iranian Foreign Minister, pointing out that the leadership of the two countries prioritize strengthening the relations and eliminating obstacles.

"We constantly work with the Iranian authorities to provide the facilitation and consider the ways of boosting trade and economic cooperation, said His Excellency.

The FM also lauded the cooperation between the two countries concerning the procedures for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 organization, reiterating Qatar's welcome to Iranian fans to witness the huge sporting event.

For his part, HE Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran Dr. Hossein Amir Abdollahian welcomed the visit of HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and confirmed the constructive discussions on some of the bilateral relations and regional issues during the meeting.

Iran's Abdollahian indicated that it is essential to strengthen the regional mechanisms and launch a regional dialogue, pointing out that Qatar has a persistent positive role in boosting dialogue and has made constructive steps in this context, adding Qatar is committed to this constructive regional role.

He thanked Qatar for hosting the indirect tripartite talks in Doha for the revival of the nuclear accord. 

Abdollahian said: "We have witnessed a prominent role from HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and his good efforts to facilitate and advance these negotiations, we are ready to reach a robust and sustainable agreement and did not make any further requests, and all our requests are based on 2015 agreement framework, we have good intentions and we are engaged in the negotiations on a real basis."

Iran's foreign minister indicated that the discussions tackled some of the problems faced by some Iranian merchants regarding long-term residency, and focused on providing facilities for their residency, facilitating the transportation process, and solving problems arising from the Covid-19 pandemic, expressing his country's aspiration to work to reach best ties with Qatar in trade fields.

He thanked Qatar for the coordination between sports officials in Iran and those who are organizing FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. 

"We succeeded in operationalizing some task forces and we have carried out the necessary coordination pertaining to sports affairs and the participation of our team and the attendance of our fans," Abdollahian said.
