New Delhi: At least 14 people were killed and many others injured after unseasonal thunderstorms accompanied by rains and gusty winds lashed India's western state of Gujarat, officials said Tuesday.

A total of 168 out of 253 sub-districts in the state received rain in the last 24 hours.

The officials said the deaths were caused due to uprooting of trees, the collapse of hoardings, electrocution, lightning and house collapses because of fierce winds.

Locals said fierce winds have damaged mango orchards and flattened horticulture farms in the affected districts.

The India Meteorological Department has warned that thunderstorms with lightning and winds of 50-60 kmph were likely to continue across many parts of Gujarat for the next few days.
