Doha, Qatar: Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs H E Sheikh Ghanem bin Shaheen bin Ghanem Al Ghanem received Qatari students who participated in the “Young Ambassador” programme during an honouring ceremony held yesterday in recognition of their active participation and efforts in the initiative.

The event was organised by the Sheikh Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Centre, affiliated with the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs.

The ceremony also saw Undersecretary of the Ministry H E Dr. Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Ghanem Al Thani honour the participating students in the programme dedicated to private school students. The three-day programme focused on training Qatari youth to introduce Islamic culture and Qatari traditions in English, enhancing their ability to engage in constructive cultural dialogue with non-Arabic speakers.

The “Young Ambassador” programme comes within the Ministry’s vision to empower Qatari youth to play an active role in presenting Islam’s values and culture while highlighting Qatar’s national identity and heritage through a balanced and knowledgeable approach that reflects the country’s civilisational image.

During the ceremony, the Minister praised the efforts of the Sheikh Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Centre in developing this distinctive initiative, emphasising the importance of investing in young people and preparing them to become ambassadors of their culture to the world. He stressed that such programmes help present a balanced image of Islam, its values, and Qatari society and heritage.

The programme brought together 15 Qatari students from several public and private schools. Over three days, they received intensive training covering various topics, including methods of introducing Islamic culture, dialogue skills, discussion etiquette, and ways to address misconceptions through well-grounded and scholarly responses. The sessions were delivered by a group of specialised instructors from the centre.

The training also focused on developing public speaking and communication skills in English and strengthening participants’ self-confidence, enabling them to take part in cultural events, field visits, and awareness activities organised by the centre.

Participants showed notable enthusiasm and engagement throughout the programme, expressing pride in their Islamic cultural identity and their desire to contribute to introducing it to diverse communities.

The Sheikh Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Centre continues to play a key role in introducing residents of various nationalities in Qatar to Islamic culture and Qatari heritage through educational and outreach programmes offered in multiple languages. These initiatives help strengthen positive integration and promote values of coexistence and mutual understanding.
