Doha: The pharmaceutical sector conference will take place in Doha on March 9 and 10, titled “Medication Sector in Qatar: Hand in Hand Facing the Blockade”. The conference will be attended by 150 pharmacists, specialists from the pharmaceutical field, expertise from pharmaceutical industries and representatives from the Qatari health sector.

It will cover three main themes represented by medication management and accessibility to medication in Qatar, building pharmaceutical industry and innovation in Qatar and building human capacity in Qatar.

Vice-President for Medical and Health Sciences Dr Egon Toft said through this conference, Qatar University demonstrates its prominent contribution to the future of the healthcare system in Qatar.

He expected that the conference will contribute to supporting the healthcare sector in the country from a human rights perspective.

The conference highlights the pharmaceutical sector in Qatar and the effect the siege has on health and ensuring access to medicine. Dr Toft said all data indicate that Qatar has paved the way to independency and self-sufficiency with regards to matters related to health and medicines.

Dean of College of Pharmacy Dr. Mohammad Diab said a team was formed to study and plan the appropriate steps to define the college’s role in dealing with the siege.

He added that the team coordinated a number of field trips and met with many of the college’s partners and those involved in the medical sector in Qatar, through which the idea of organising this conference emerged.
