Saud Al Mohannadi, the Qatar Football Association (QFA), Vice President yesterday joined officials and fans to welcome the 2019 Asian Cup trophy at Al Bidda tower.
At a brief yet bright ceremony, Al Mohannadi was joined by Hani Ballan, member of the QFA Executive Committee, Mansoor Al Ansari, Secretary General, QFA, Khaldi Al Kuwari, Director of the Marketing and Communication, QFA, and retired Qatar football players Ibrahim Khalfan, Khalid Salman and Adel Khamis.
The Asian Cup trophy will continue to make stops around the region before finally reaching the UAE where the region’s premier football tournament will be held from January 5 to February 1.
Football fans yesterday also joined the officials in posing next to Asian Cup trophy at Al Bidda Tower.
“This is the region’s biggest national team event. A total of 24 teams will feature in the tournament. We will have eight more teams in the latest edition. This shows the tournament has gained in importance and popularity in Asia,” Al Mohannadi said.
“We expect high quality football from the teams. The game’s development will be reflected in the matches that take place during the 2019 Asian Cup,” he added.
Al Ansari, Secretary General of QFA, said: “We welcome the Asian Cup trophy in Qatar. We are one of the participating countries at the Asian Cup. We are delighted to see the enthusiasm of the fans gathered here for this ceremony. Doha is an important city when it comes to sports events particularly football. That’s why we see such big crowds at events like this one.”
