DOHA: H E Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim Al Thani, Minister of Economy and Commerce, met yesterday with senior Paraguayan government officials, including ministers, in Asunción, and discussed ways to promote bilateral trade and economic cooperation between Qatar and the South American nation.

Liz Cramer, Minister of Industry and Commerce, Arnoldo Wiens, Minister of Public Works and Communications, Conrado Hoeckle, Economic Adviser to the President of Paraguay, Humberto Colmán, Deputy Minister of Economy, José Carlos Martin, President of National Animal Health and Quality Service participated in the meeting.

Sheikh Faisal bin Thani Al Thani, Director of the Investment Department at Qatar Investment Authority, also attended the meeting.

Discussions touched on bilateral relations and the promotion of Qatari-Paraguayan ties on the economic, trade and investment levels. The meeting also focused on efforts to set in motion signed bilateral agreements in the economic and trade fields, particularly the economic, commercial and technical cooperation agreement, which plays an important role in boosting the bilateral trade and supporting the flow of investments between both countries.

Qatar and Paraguay are bound by a number of agreements, including the Agreement on Economic, Commercial and Technical Cooperation signed in 2010, an agreement on the mutual promotion and protection of investments and an agreement for the avoidance of double taxation.
