DOHA: Qatari football giants Al Rayyan will miss the services of their Uruguayan defender Gonzalo Viera who is nursing a muscle injury he sustained during their QNB Stars League (QSL) round-four fixture against Al Kharaitiyat on Saturday.
Viera will be out of action for almost two weeks and as a result, he will miss their opening match of the QSL Cup against Al Ahli on September 8.
Viera, a towering presence in the Al Rayyan defence, is expected to take the field when Al Rayyan travel to Al Arabi in their next QSL match on September 14.
Twelve teams, including Al Rayyan are gearing up for the QSL Cup, which kicks off on Friday.
While some clubs are preparing with their full squad, others are deprived of it as their overseas professional players are on international duty.
Some of the Qatari players are also away on national duty ahead of the forthcoming friendlies against China and Palestine.
