Dublin: The President of Ireland Michael Higgins called on United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to take decisive measures against Israel under Chapter VII of the UN Charter, in light of the crimes of genocide and starvation committed in the Gaza Strip.

Higgins said on Monday that the UN Secretary-General must use the procedures stipulated in the UN Charter and invoke Chapter VII.

He added that this step must be taken regardless whether the UN Security Council agrees or not, or if there were a veto, explaining that the UN Secretary-General has the right to seek to form an international defense for the people of Gaza.

The Irish President pointed out that 6,000 aid trucks, enough to last three months, have been prevented from entering the Gaza Strip.

Higgins said that he cannot just stand there and give a speech when massive destruction to a people is happening right now, as children starve, women suffer from dehydration and try to feed their children, adding that something must happen.
