Algiers: Qatar are eyeing their best-ever performance at the Arab Games as the 15th edition of multi-sporting regional event begins in Algiers, Algeria today.
Around 3500 athletes representing 22 countries are taking part in the competition.
Head of the Qatar delegation Nasser Al Mudahka (pictured) said Qatar is participating in the event with 104 athletes, who will compete for medals in 17 disciplines.
He said Qatari athletes are targeting a highest number of medals in the event and are ready to compete for top honours.
He also thanked Qatar Olympic Committee President H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani for his continuous support for Team Qatar that has resulted in shining performances by Al Annabi athletes in major sports events.
Al Mudahka, meanwhile, pointed out that the teams have started arriving in Algeria according to the schedule of participation for each game. So far, the delegations of special needs and athletics have arrived, while the handball delegation is expected to arrive today, he said.
He also praised the great effort of the organising committee to make Arab sporting festival a success, saying Qatari delegation received a warm welcome from the Algerians.
For her part, member of the Qatari administrative delegation participating in the Arab Games in Algeria Huda Nasser Al Yafei affirmed that there are facilities and services provided for the Qatari teams in coordination with the organising committee.
She said that all logistic matters, such as transportation and housing, had been already prepared, and there is continuous follow-up for the comfort of all athletes.
