Doha, Qatar: In a collaborative effort, the Philippine Embassy in Qatar, in partnership with the Philippine Department of Agriculture (DA), is inviting the Filipino community residing in the country to a free session of the Agribusiness Webinar Series.

The upcoming webinar, titled “Agribusiness opportunity in Duck Farming for Overseas Filipinos in Doha, Qatar,” will take place on Friday, July 7 at 10am via Zoom.

The Department of Agriculture highlights that duck farming and raising is a highly profitable livestock industry in the Philippines, primarily due to its valuable egg production. One of its most popular products, the balut (a boiled incubated duck’s egg), is renowned for its delicious flavour and nutritional value and is sold daily throughout the archipelago.

The practice of duck raising is particularly recommended in baytowns located along the shores of Laguna de Bay, where an abundant supply of fresh water snails serves as excellent duck food. While ducks are predominantly raised for their eggs, they are also sold for meat when snail food becomes scarce.

This webinar series, known as Micro Agri-Kabuhayan para sa Balikbayan, was launched in 2021 to provide support and alternative sources of livelihood for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), while also promoting agricultural and agribusiness development in the Philippines. Its initial international launch took place in South Korea in 2021.

Through the programme, OFWs will gain valuable knowledge on starting and managing their chosen businesses through comprehensive training and seminars. The series not only educates participants on product development and sales but also provides financing support for aspiring overseas Filipino agripreneurs.

To participate in the webinar, interested individuals are required to register via a Google Docs link accessible through the Philippine Embassy in Qatar’s Facebook page. Importantly, the webinar series is free of charge, allowing greater accessibility for attendees.

Last year, in November, the Philippine Embassy in Qatar, also in collaboration with the Philippine Department of Agriculture, conducted a series of webinars spanning from August to November. The topics covered included Hog Raising, Tilapia and Catfish Raising, and Vegetable Farming.

Numerous Filipinos living and working in Qatar have expressed their appreciation for these initiatives, stating that online seminars like this provide them with valuable insights to start their own businesses upon returning to the Philippines.

Jenny, a resident from Batangas, shared her excitement about the upcoming webinar, as she plans to venture into Duck Farming upon retiring at the end of this year. Salvador, hailing from Davao del Sur, emphasised that webinars on agribusiness help nurture an entrepreneurial mindset among individuals.
