French jockey Olivier Peslier astride Yazeed celebrates after winning the Qatar Gold Sword at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) yesterday.
DOHA: Yazeed yesterday produced electrifying speed as French jockey Olivier Peslier won the Qatar Gold Sword, the feature event at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC).
Yazeed, trained by Alban Elie Marie De Mieulle, clocked a time of 2:10.24 in the 2,000m turf race in the 10-rider field.
Gazwan, ridden by Theo Bachelot and trained by Julian Smart, finished in second spot. The third place was secured by Tayf, ridden by Ronan Thomas.
Peslier won $142,500 for his top-place finish while Bachelot got richer by $55,000. Thomas picked up $27,500.
Popular British jockey Harry Bentley guided The Blue Eye to the Qatar Gold Trophy win ahead of a strong field in what race 7 on the cards at QREC.
The Blue Eye, trained by Jassim Ghazali, won the 2200m marathon in a time of 2:14.19. Bentley won $142,000 for his win.
Heshem, ridden by Peslier and trained by Alban Elie Marie, finished in second spot. Peslier won $55,000.
Ghazali-trained Alignment, who had Bachelot in the saddle, finished in third spot. Bachelot got richer by $27,500.
In race 6, Thomas guided Aahil to a close win in the Qatar Silver Trophy worth $45,600. Aahil clocked a time of 1:43.90 in the 1,600m.
Molheb Al Naif, ridden by Bentley and trained by Ghazali, finished second while Sharesa, who had Bachelot in the saddle, ended in third spot.
Bentley took home $17,600 while Bachelot won $8,800.
