Manila: Philippine rescuers have found the wreckage of a missing fighter jet and the bodies of its two pilots, authorities said.

The wreckage of the FA-50 aircraft and the bodies, was found in a mountainous area in the southern province of Bukidnon.

The Philippine Air Force announced Tuesday the contact with the aircraft was lost a minute before reaching its target area while carrying out a night tactical mission.

Military officials said the other planes were able to return to an air base in the central province of Cebu after carrying out the mission.
