Market sees growing number of qualified Qatari arbitrators: Sheikh Dr. Thani

The Qatar International Center for Conciliation and Arbitration concluded last week the “Qualification and Preparation of the Arbitrators Programme” which was held in cooperation with the Center for Continuing Education at Qatar University, following the completion of six phases of the program.

Sheikh Dr. Thani bin Ali Al Thani (pictured), Member of the Board of Directors of International Relations at the Qatar International Center for Reconciliation and Arbitration and Dr. Rajab Al-Ismail, Director of the Center for Community Service and Continuing Education at the University of Qatar, delivered the graduation certificates to the 21trainees after the conclusion of the sixth phase titled “practical trial,”.

According to a statement issued by the Qatar International Center for conciliation and arbitration, the participation in the program will include registration of the participants in the list of arbitrators in the center. In order to refine their expertise and prepare them to work on the ground.

Sheikh Dr. Thani bin Ali Al Thani said that the program covered all aspects of commercial arbitration including practical application. It provided trainees with full knowledge on arbitration at both scientific and practical levels.

Qualified trainees are now registered in lists of arbitrators of QICCA in preparation for registering them in the Ministry of Justice.

Sheikh Dr. Thani also said that the program helped in increasing the number of Qatari arbitrators who are qualified to settle commercial disputes, noting that there more than 60 Qatari arbitrators registered in the center.

This would enrich the Qatari leading experiment in arbitration which has drawn attention after issuing the Law No (2) of 2017 on civil and commercial arbitration.

In turn, Dr. Rajab Al-Ismail said that this program met the training requirements in the field of commercial arbitration, affirming that there is a growing interest in arbitration at local and global levels as it represented the optimal solution for settling commercial and investment disputes.

Al-Ismail praised the cooperation between the Center for Continuing Education and QICCA, indicating that this edition in the third in addition to many training programs in arbitration field.

Trainees praised the scientific article of the program which included all aspects of commercial arbitration.
