The Qatar Red Crescent (QRCS) and Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) have signed an agreement to strengthen cooperation between them to implement the “ Treatment for hearing impairment and deafness” project .
The agreement was signed by the secretary-general of Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) Ali Hassan Al Hammadi and the Program Director and Head of HMC’s Audiology and Balance center Dr. Khalid Abdul Hadi.
The agreement provides for the commitment of the Qatar Red Crescent through the Patient Benefit Fund to provide support and treatment to the hearing impairment and deafness patients, and to cover the costs of medical aids from equipment and treatment, while the HMC’s Audiology and Balance center provides treatment and operations for the targeted cases, and provide support, education and medical guidance as well.
Al Hammadi said that the agreement would provide care for a group of the most needy groups in the society, which are people who suffers from hearing impairment and deafness, pointing out that there are many referrals, individuals or families, who need support in this area.
He also noted that while the State of Qatar is keen to provide the best medical services to all patients, citizens and residents, the role of the Qatar Red Crescent is to cooperate with state institutions to extend the social safety of this particular group of society, support them, and also help them to endure the hardships of life.
The secretary-general of QRCS praised the close cooperation with Hamad Medical Corporation in fields of the training, social and medical projects implemented by the Qatar Red Crescent in Qatar, which contribute to its success and achieve the desired development purpose, in accordance with the general orientations of the State of Qatar and the objectives of its national vision 2030.
Dr. Abdul Hadi valued the cooperation between Hamad Medical Corporation and the Qatari Red Crescent in the framework of the community partnership, stressing that the agreement aims to alleviate the suffering of patients unable to perform cochlear implants and other hearing aids from different nationalities residing in Qatar, where the Qatari Red Crescent provides financial support to them to purchase these devices, while the medical team of Hamad Medical Corporation provides the necessary care for these patients.
He said that the Qatari Red Crescent has provided financial support to more than 60 cases so far. It is expected that the number of cochlear implants in Qatar will increase in the coming period.
Dr Khalid Abdul Hadi pointed out that the electronic cochlear devices provided by Hamad Medical Corporation for patients, are one of the latest devices available in the worldwide, while Qatar is one of the first countries in the region that began the national program for the early detection of hearing impairment since 2003, to discover children who suffer from hearing disabilities at birth, and early treatment to reduce their hearing disability.
