SYDNEY: Canterbury Bulldogs’ skipper Michael Ennis has been ruled out of Australia’s National Rugby League grand final against South Sydney with a foot injury, the club said yesterday.
Hooker Ennis suffered the injury during last week’s 18-12 preliminary final victory over the Penrith Panthers, and subsequent scans revealed two fractures in his left foot.
Ennis was unable to train and while he was given the week to battle through, coach Des Hasler decided he should not play.
A decision on Ennis’s replacement has yet to be made.
In the absence of Ennis, English Test forward James Graham and scrum-half Trent Hodkinson will be co-captains for the premiership decider, the club said.
Ennis, 30, has now played his last game for the Bulldogs, having signed a two-year deal to play with NRL rivals Cronulla Sharks from next season.
It will be the Bulldogs’ second grand final appearance in three seasons under coach Hasler, with their 2012 campaign ending in disappointment against Melbourne.AFP
