AJS Wathanan lands Late Rabiah Saad Al Kaabi Cup title

Doha: Al Ghazali Stud’s AJS Wathanan, with Alberto Sanna in the saddle, yesterday sealed an impressive 6-length win to clinch the Late Rabiah Saad Al Kaabi Cup title on 15th Race Meeting.  

The Jassim Ghazali-trained 8-year-old gelding looked in top form as he outclassed his opponents in yesterday’s feature race at Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club’s Al Rayyan Park.          

The winning team pocketed QR57,000 for their commanding win in the race, that offered QR100,000 as total prize money. 

Michael Forest guided Mehdi to second place in the race to grab QR 22,000, with Sealine, helmed by Ronan Thomas securing third spot to win QR11,000.  

Topsy Turvy was also on song yesterday, landing the Thoroughbreds (Class 2) title with jockey Tomas Lukasek.   

In the QR75,000 race, Sheikh Faisal bin Hamad Bin Jassim Al Thani’s Topsy Turvy recorded a 2¾-length win, securing QR42,750. 

JP Guillambert rode Zuhair Mohsen Zuhair Maki-trained Shakour to second place, while High Commander with Saleh Salem Al Marri in the saddle, finished third.   

Also yesterday, Saeed Nasser Al Qadi’s Zarandi, guided by Meteb Ali Al Saaq, topped Thoroughbred Handicap (Class 3), finishing ahead of Dheban and Ernest Aldrich, who finished second and third respectively.    

Today, riders will compete for Ras Laffan Cup honours, which will feature a total of eight races
