Doha: Reach Out to Asia (ROTA) will host youth consultations at a two-day meeting from September 1 ahead of the first United Nations World Humanitarian Summit.
The UN summit will be held in Istanbul on May 23 and 24 next year.
The summit is a call of action by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to reduce human loss and suffering from global crises.
It will set an agenda for change to prepare humanitarian action to cope with current and future global challenges.
As part of the build-up to the summit, the ROTA event will see young men and women discuss and make proposals seeking solutions to the response to disasters and humanitarian crises. The proposals will be submitted to the UN Summit.
ROTA is hosting the youth meeting in association with UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
The UN chose ROTA to host the event due to the latter’s initiatives to tackle issues affecting young people in Qatar and other parts of the world.
By hosting such consultations, ROTA aims to encourage Qatari youth to discuss and provide views on global issues and engage in humanitarian work.
