DOHA: With increasing fire accidents in summer months, people have urged the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs to implement safety measures at mosques.
They said mosques where majority of people gather should have proper safety and security arrangements, reports Al Sharq.
They urged authorities to instal fire-extinguishers and carry out routine checks at mosques. Some people complained that many mosques lack proper exit points. They claimed that majority of mosques have only two doors and evacuation could be difficult in an emergency, especially when there is a large number of worshippers.
Some worshipers urged authority to train imams in taking action in case of fire or an emergency, which could help in quick evacuation and controlling the situation.
There are around 2,000 mosques administrated by the ministry. Last year, 66 new mosques were opened.
