Doha, Qatar: Doha is set to host another grand event highlighting the country’s legacy of sporting excellence as organisers unveiled the details of the second Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) Half Marathon and Team Qatar Activities yesterday.
From elite competitors chasing podium spots to recreational participants who will be looking to test personal limits, the QOC Half Marathon will be a stage for everyone to enjoy athleticism and community engagement when the starting gun fires at the Lusail Boulevard on February 10 as part of Qatar National Sports Day celebrations.
During a press conference held at the QOC headquarters, the oranisers confirmed that all organisational, logistical and technical aspects are in place to deliver a world-class race experience for both athletes and spectators.
Head of the Technical Committee Ahmed Al-Jaber revealed a course layout for both the 21km Half Marathon and the 10km race, which extends to the Qetaifan Islands Corniche and finishes at Lusail Boulevard.
The race categories include a 1km event for children aged 6-14, a 5km race for boys and girls aged 15-17 and open men’s and women’s categories (19-39) across 5km, 10km, and 21km distances, with additional divisions for participants aged 40 and above. Dedicated Team Qatar categories will also be contested.
The Half Marathon will start at 6:00am, while Team Qatar Village activities kick off at Al Sa’ad Plaza at 7:00am.
While addressing the media, Head of the Marketing Committee of the Half Marathon and Team Village Sheikh Abdullah bin Saud Al-Thani confirmed that the marketing plan is complete and ready for implementation, praising sponsors and partners for ensuring comprehensive logistical, medical, catering and media support.
“The Organising Committee also looks forward to welcoming participants and athletes to Team Qatar Village, where they will embody the true spirit of sportsmanship, and wishes everyone an enjoyable and memorable experience,” Sheikh Abdullah said.
Last year’s inaugural edition drew more than 3,884 runners to the streets of Doha, turning the event into an instant attraction on Qatar’s sports calendar while setting a strong benchmark.
Al-Jaber also announced the launch of the Team Qatar Volunteers Platform, a comprehensive system to manage volunteer registration and deployment for major current and upcoming events, including the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027, FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship 2029, running up to the Doha 2030 Asian Games.
