Doha:  Al Sadd head coach Xavi Hernandez expressed his delight after his side’s 7-1 win over Al Shahania in Week 2 of the QNB Stars League.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Xavi said: “I am very happy with the performance and the huge result. We excelled in the first half and scored six goals. In the second half, Al Shahania defended well and prevented us from scoring more.”

“We are still at the start of the season. We are on the top but it’s just the beginning and we must continue in order to reach our objective,” he added.

Saturday’s big win was the Wolves first game after the loss to Al-Nassr in the AFC Champions League.

Xavi also said: “I have a lot of confidence in all the players, including Jung Woo-young who always gives good performances. Mistakes can always happen in football. Jung helps us start attacks with his great passes.”

Asked about the change of position for Khoukhi Boualem, Xavi said: “Khoukhi is a versatile player; he can play in many positions. I am very happy with him. He scored a beautiful goal.”

“I wanted to take off Khoukhi, Abdelkarim and Akram in order to give them some rest. I am really happy with all the players in the team and I am very lucky to have them.”

Meanwhile, Al Sadd duo of Baghdad Bounedjah and Jung Woo-young both received call-ups for the respective national teams.. Bounedjah is set to join the Algeria camp for their friendly games against Benin and Ghana, while Jung’s South Korea have a friendly against Georgia and a 2022 World Cup and Asian Cup qualifier against Turkmenistan.
