Doha Islamic Youth Forum gives real motivation, say participants

The outstanding participants chosen by the Ministry of Culture and Sports in the Doha Islamic Youth Forum have said that their participation in the forum strengthened bonds among youth representing different Islamic countries and enriched their understanding of other cultures.

“The event was a unique experience, we benefited from the workshops conducted by the organising  committee especially the one about Diplomatic Simulation. The event strengthened the bonds amongst youth from different member states. This fostered a better understanding of each other’s culture within the OIC member states,” said Iddi Ahmed from Cameron.

Ahmed who has been selected as a distinguished participant told The Peninsula said that the forum provided youth with a platform where they could build bridges through networking sessions. “This created a shared sense of belonging between one another.”

The Ministry of Culture and Sports announced the names of the outstanding participants in the Doha Islamic Youth Forum, which was held by the Ministry among the activities of ‘Doha - The Capital of Islamic Youth 2019’ from July 7 to 11, 2019.

The outstanding names were chosen based on objective criteria, foremost of which is time commitment, collaboration with colleagues, active participation, and innovation.

They include three boys and three girls. The boys’ names include Ahmed Al Mohannadi from Qatar, Bangkit Ausamapta Harvin from Indonesia and Iddi Ahmed from Cameroon.

The girls’ names include Bouchra Massoudi from Algeria, Khadija Ajnoui from Morocco and Asma Salem Al Fawri from Oman.

On Diplomatic Simulation workshop of the forum, Iddi Ahmed said that the workshop was important in the sense that it helped participants to express themselves, which is very important for future youth ambassadors. “It was a new way of negotiations for me.”

On his efforts for making youth believing in their abilities, he said: “I am raising awareness amongst the youth by encouraging them to believe in their potentials and skills. What we need is to make youth responsible especially for their deeds.”

For his part, Bangkit Ausamapta Harvin from Indonesia said: “I am an engineering student at IPB University. Beside my college life, I am also co-founder and media administrator at my non-governmental organisation named Sandro Academy.”

On his participation in the forum, he said: “I hugely benefited from my participation. We went through a number of brainstorming sessions and different workshops to get an insight into youth issues and challenges and how the youth can prove themselves as the power of the nation, shape critical thinking, understand each other and respect others’ aspirations.”

He said that the experts at the workshop did a great job for making participants open-minded and know what is the biggest problem being faced by the youth. “The visit also helped us discover Qatar and to know more about its culture. We visited Qatar National Tourism Council, Qatar National Library, Qatar National Museum, Katara Cultural Village and The Pearl-Qatar. From these visits, I learnt about Qatar’s history, new culture, experienced Qatari cuisine and all-new things which I could not find in Indonesia.”

The announcement of the distinguished names of the Doha Islamic Youth Forum has motivated youth from the Islamic world. The Organizing Committee will honor the outstanding youth at the closing ceremony.

The Doha Forum was held under the motto “The Youth is the Power of Nation”, and held in cooperation between the Ministry of Culture and Sports and the Islamic Youth Cooperation Forum of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
