Team Qatar athletes secured two podium finishes in the field events on Day 1 of the 24th Arab Athletics Championships, currently underway at the Miloud Hadefi Stadium in Oran, Algeria. High-jump sensation Hamdi Ali sailed over 2.14 metres to clinch Team Qatar’s first gold medal at the five-day Championships. Earlier Ahmad Jibrine registered a distance of 17.88 metres to seize the silver medal in the shot put final which was won by Saudi Arabia’s Mohammed Tolo (19.70m).
