Doha: Alfonso Santiado and Zara Rahim, topped in the boys and girls section of the Swim for a Cause open water swimming challenge organised by Sharq Village & Spa, at Sharq Village & Spa Beach recently.
Mekaal Rahim, came second in the 250m race for boys while Jatnald Canaria took the runners-up place in the girl’s section. In the 500m races for men and women, Omar Fawzy took the first place followed by Thiago Colomer and Iwan Briggs. Geioria Twigg bagged the first position followed by Csilla Karolyi and Rishi Dronadula, in the women’s section.
Over 89 swimmers participated in the event.
Swim for cause’s purpose is to provide drinking water to people who do not have access to clean water in the developing countries.
The organisers of the event have tied up with Qatar Charity, while H2O swim club, Six Senses Spa, MAD Triathlon and Tri Club Doha, are the partners of the event. Sharq Village & Spa, a Ritz-Carlton Hotel, has been offing open water training session on every Friday morning with MAD Tradition Group, as part of the Swim for a Cause program.
“Events like Swim for a Cause are an occasion to promote healthy life style among everyone. Sharq Village & Spa takes part also in Water Safety Program for kids in order to minimize drowning incidents in Qatar. The program involves water safety education, how to react for emergency and to raise awareness with the parents for water safety as well,” said Asela Jayaweera, Recreation Manager at Sharq Village & Spa,
