DOHA: Newly-crowned champions Al Sadd extended their unbeaten run in QNB Stars League (QSL) to 46 matches with a 4-2 win over Al Khor while Al Shamal clinched an impressive 3-0 win against the third placed Al Wakrah in the penultimate round, yesterday.

Al Sadd’s win at Al Khor Stadium took their points tally to 56 from 20 matches, with two games in hand, including the postponed Round 14 match against Al Rayyan, which will be played in a week’s time.

Al Sadd’s goals came from Ali Asad, Santi Cazorla, Akram Afif and Andre Ayew in the 32nd, 68th, 69th and 79th minutes, while Al Khor benefitted from an own goal by Khoukhi Boualem in the 47th minute. Their second goal was scored by Harib Al Saadi in the 83rd minute.

Al Sadd were reduced to 10 men in the 28th minute when defender Pedro Miguel was sent off, but the red card made little impact to the Javi Gracia-coached Wolves.

Meanwhile, Al Shamal collected vital points against Al Wakrah at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium.

Ali Alwan (26), Muhammad El Sayed (45) and Fahad Waad (78) were on target for the winners who raised their points tally to 22 in ninth place.

Al Wakrah’s balance stopped at 37 points in third place.

Earlier, at the same venue, former champions Al Rayyan defeated Qatar SC 2-1 thanks to goals from Steven Nzonzi (39) and Yohan Boli (67) after Khaled Mahmoudi put Qatar SC ahead by scoring as early as the second minute.

Nzonzi was later given the marching orders in the 87th minute after he picked up a second yellow card.

Al Rayyan now have 21 points following their fifth victory, while Qatar SC remained on 23 points after suffering their 10th defeat.

The fourth match of the day saw Al Sailiya and Al Ahli sharing points following a 2-2 stalemate at Al Arabi Stadium.

Abdul Rashid Ibrahim scored both goals for Al Ahli (28, 38) while Dostonbek Khamadamov (34) and Driss Fettouhi (45+2 penalty) scored for Al Sailiya.

Al Sailiya and Al Khor are now level on points at 13 in at the bottom of the table. But Al Sailiya are one level up thanks to the goal difference. Al Ahli’s points balance rose to 24 after the draw.
