Doha: Minister of Transport and Communications H E Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti has said that the volume of e-trade in Qatar at the end of December is QR4bn.
Talking to media after launching Turkish Souq e-commerce platform, the minister said that the volumes of e-trade were on the rise. “Qatar Airways alone handed shipping of 25percent of e-commerce items, 14percent of their cargo was handled by other Qatari companies while the rest was shipped by other foreign companies,” he said.
The minister said that Qatar was keen to develop e-commerce market and increase exchange level reaching QR10bn by 2022. He said that the government was encouraging Qatari companies in this regard.
On Turkish Souq, the Minister said that it was a great step that will give access to Qatar’s population to Turkish market. He said the service was cheap as Qatar Post would charge only QR50 for shipping. The minister said that as many as 1,500 companies in Qatar were working in electronic businesses and “our target to take the number to 5000 by 2020.”
