Doha: In Qatar, in collaboration with Your Health First, Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy is now delivering its programmes in ten local schools, up from three the year before.
SC’s key initiatives – Inclusive Generation, Green Generation and Healthy Generation – have directly benefitted more than 1,000 children during 2017. Soon we will expand the programme to 20 schools, SC says on its website under title “2017 in review: Generation Amazing grows locally and internationally. We have also published six children’s books in partnership with Maktaba Library. These are helping to further reinforce our core messages and inspire young people about the potential of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.”
Also on the local front, SC has significantly expanded its coaching structure, after partnering with Qatar Football Association to incorporate 50 new coaches who are currently being trained to deliver football for development sessions to both schoolchildren and workers. “In addition, we have partnered with Qatar Players Association to appoint ambassadors for our programme who promote the benefits of our training schemes and act as inspirational role models for our beneficiaries.”
During the recent World Innovation Summit for Education in Doha, SC showcased its programmes, both at Qatar National Convention Centre and during Doha Learning Week. “Participating in these events helped to highlight our work to local, regional and international audiences, particularly as it included various events attended by FIFA World Cup winner Xavi Hernandez – our most famous Generation Amazing ambassador.”
Another of SC’s great achievements in 2017 is benefitting its programmes outside Qatar. “We have partnered with Street Football World, a global NGO that harnesses the power of football for good causes, to support the delivery of Generation Amazing projects overseas. Since 2010, Generation Amazing has been operating in Jordan, Lebanon, Nepal, Pakistan and Syria. In all these communities we have built football pitches and implemented sustainable programmes where football is used to develop human capacity and empower young leaders while teaching our core messages.” Next year promises to be another landmark 12 months in the Generation Amazing story. “We are aiming to reach more than 2,500 workers and 4,500 children in Qatar, while also looking to implement our school programmes in other Gulf countries.” Overseas, in collaboration with Street Football World, SC is also aiming to reach six new communities in India and the Philippines, where the committee will build two community centres and six football pitches. “Each one of these pitches will become key community hubs and places where our football for development programmes will be delivered through various partners on the ground. Also next year and Generation Amazing is aiming to launch a new initiative where football will be used to help children and young people in post-trauma situations, such as refugees and other people who have been displaced due to conflict or natural disasters.”
