Dakar: Olympic Council of Asia President H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani inaugurated the BAL4HER basketball court in Guidiaoué, Senegal, marking the launch of the initiative’s first facility in Africa.
The project aims to create an inclusive sporting space where young men and women can come together through basketball, providing opportunities for participation, interaction and personal development.
The court is part of a partnership between Qatar Foundation and the Basketball Africa League (BAL), which seeks to expand access to basketball and strengthen girls’ participation in the sport across the continent.
Sheikh Joaan praised the partnership, saying it had turned the shared belief in sport’s power to empower communities into meaningful action. He also thanked BAL President Amadou Gallo Fall and everyone involved in making the initiative a success.
