Talent identification team from Aspire Academy conducted baseline testing of all the Gulf English School boys in grades 4 and 5. The results of the tests are very promising when compared with other boys from around the country. Boys who reached certain scores now have the chance to join the Aspire Academy Multi-Sport training programme. This is a programme to help develop children who are gifted and talented in sports, and which ultimately could lead to an opportunity for them to attend Aspire Academy full time.
The programme will run four days each week at The Gulf English School and the first cohort of boys who reached the required standards will be invited to start training with Aspire Academy coaches from the last week in September.
Head Coach Carl Broome says that he is “extremely excited about the chance to work with the pupils at The Gulf English School. They produced some very good results during the performance testing and I am confident that they will progress well if they attend regularly.”
This will be the first Aspire Academy centre in the Garaffa area and the children who have been selected to attend will be receiving their invites when they return for the new school year.
Head of Faculty for PE at GES, Rebecca Cruickshank, said: “I am happy to be in a school where progress in health, wellness, fitness and sport is encouraged and supported by its management. We now have excellent partnerships with clubs, national federations and organizations such as Aspire Academy. Together with the usual physical education curriculum, this means that we can help every child establish and maintain a healthy, active lifestyle; we can also identify talent earlier and aid their progression into national sports programmes. Qatar has a wonderful support system for its gifted athletes and we now have many ways to help our students access this provision. The new multi-sport skills centre being run by Aspire Academy will be of enormous benefit to our boys. I am very pleased to be working with Carl and his team this year.”
