Doha: The Qatar 3x3 national basketball team is preparing to participate in the upcoming FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup in Singapore from today. The tournament features elite men’s and women’s teams from across Asia.

The championship will see notable Arab representation alongside Qatar, with Saudi Arabia and Bahrain also competing, reflecting the growing regional interest and development of the 3x3 format in recent years.

The Qatari delegation is being led by Saadoun Sabah Al Kuwari, Secretary General of the Qatar Basketball Federation and Director of National Teams, accompanied by Captain Yaseen Ismail, Director of the 3x3 National Teams. The technical staff will be headed by coach Marco, who is expected to provide the tactical edge needed for success in the competition.

The men’s squad includes Mohammed Hashem Zeidan, Mubarak Jama, Dejan Janic, and Nedim Muslic. This quartet aims to deliver strong performances that highlight the progress of 3x3 basketball in Qatar and contend for top positions.

Qatar will begin their campaign in Group D on April 3, facing a qualifier from the preliminary round in its opening match, followed later the same day by a clash against New Zealand—an early test against one of the continent’s strongest teams.

The tournament features 22 participating nations: Mongolia, China, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, Australia, Chinese Taipei, the Philippines, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Tonga, Thailand, Turkmenistan, South Korea, Hong Kong, India, Vietnam, Macau, the Maldives, and Qatar. The Qatari delegation is scheduled to depart for Singapore today.

Captain Yaseen Ismail emphasized that the team enters the tournament with high ambitions, noting that preparations have gone well and the players are motivated to perform at their best. He highlighted the continuous support of the Qatar Basketball Federation and the team’s determination to achieve positive results that strengthen Qatar’s standing in Asian 3x3 basketball.
