DOHA: Italian embassy will host the high-profile ‘Italian Design Day 2018’ at Msheireb, today. The second edition of the ‘sustainable design programme’ will coincide with the “World Italian Design Day’ celebrated across the world on March 1.
The Design Day in Qatar will start with the opening remarks of the visiting Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs Angelino Alfano.
Speaking to The Peninsula yesterday, Italian Ambassador to Qatar Pasquale Salzano (pictured) said world famous Italian architects and designers like Dario Curatolo will attend the event.
“Msheireb is the perfect place to host the event. We decided to host the event at Msheireb because it is a place of inspiration for any architect and designer”, the ambassador said.
This year’s edition of Italian Design Day will be held today in 100 cities all over the world and focus on the connection between design and sustainability as expressed by 100 “Italian design ambassadors” - architects, designers, academics, business people, critics, communicators - who will make presentations to people who work in the field and enthusiasts of the best of our industrial design. The 2018 Italian design Day will set the tone for the upcoming Triennale di Milano 2019, the high-profile expo organised in Milan. The ambassador said the embassy will take the lead in negoatiating with the Msheireb project, how Muheireb can partner with the Triennale di Milano 2019 event.
The design industry is a distinctive element of the “Made in Italy” brand which unites beauty and originality with high-quality raw materials and innovative production methods and expresses the culture and traditions of the various regions.
Salzano said huge number of Italian luxury brands are high in demand in Qatar, including, Poltrona Frau (furniture), lighting design collection ‘flos; furniture and décor Driade; and Ducati.
