Qatar has been drawing praise from across the world for its timely and excellent management of the COVID-19 pandemic. Qatar’s expertise and experience in containing the contagion now reads like a guide book for other countries. When the pandemic came calling at the Qatari shores, many people thought it would be very difficult for the country with a diverse population.
But Qatar’s prompt action and the excellent coordination between different agencies and departments under the wise guidance of the leadership, the country could quickly and promptly control the spread and provide world-class treatment to the infected people. When everybody joined together with the health professionals and toiled as a team, the country could catch the COVID-19 bull by its horns, winning praise from other countries.
The latest commendation came from the External Affairs Minister of India H E Dr. Subrahmayam Jaishankar, who met with Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Ministers and other dignitaries. The minister said that he was here specifically because the Indian Prime Minister H E Narendra Modi wanted to convey his personal gratitude to H H the Amir and the Qatari government for the manner in which they looked after the Indian community during the pandemic crisis.
In an interview to the Qatar News Agency yesterday, Jaishanker said: “In India, we did not have a good experience everywhere, but we saw in Qatar a really ideal situation. From the beginning, the government was very decisive, and because of that it was able to control the spread of the virus.” He added: “Regarding the care provided to the people, we greatly appreciate that the Qatari government has taken care of the citizens and everyone who lives on the land of Qatar, which is also a model for the world. I also appreciate the contribution of Qatar Airways by operating many flights to transport stranded people to their countries. I told the CEO of Qatar Airways that we note their contribution and the possibility of travel between India and Qatar.”
The professional care and affection that the virus-infected people received had already won over the hearts and minds of the people in the country, which they expressed through different social media platforms. Whether in quarantine or in the hospital, everybody has been kept happy with professional care, free Wi-Fi and other amenities.
With the adequate precautionary measures under the direction and supervision of the Supreme Committee for Crisis Management and the financial and other relief provided by the far-sighted government, the country could come out of the pandemic unscathed.
Yes, Qatar has mastered the art of overcoming challenges.
