Doha’s landmark equestrian season

The upcoming equestrian season promises to be a major one for Doha. The 2026 calendar features an unusually large number of international events, making it one of the most important seasons ever hosted in Qatar. With the expanded Doha Equestrian Tour, the launch of the H H The Father Amir’s Cup equestrian event and several top-level championships, the focus will once again be on state-of-the-art Al Shaqab as the world’s leading riders and horses arrive to compete for major titles and prize money.

For years, Doha has quietly built a reputation as a world-class host, blending elite sport with meticulous organisation and genuine hospitality. That reputation now feels ready to evolve into something even bigger. From January to April, the capital will welcome the world’s finest riders and horses, competing across 10 international championships that range from one- to five-star level and boast a combined prize purse exceeding €10m.

The season opens fittingly with the inaugural H H The Father Amir’s Cup, running throughout January and setting the tone for what follows. It will be succeeded by prestigious fixtures such as the H H The Amir’s Sword International Equestrian Festival, the Longines-sponsored Al Shaqab International Championship (CHI), and the globally renowned Longines Global Champions Tour. The introduction of three new events - the Qatar Olympic Committee Cup, the Al Shaqab Cup and the Qatar Equestrian Federation Cup - adds further depth, variety and competitive intrigue to an already packed schedule.

Speaking at the unveiling of the tour’s new brand identity and logo recently, Doha Equestrian Tour Executive Director Khalifa Al Attiyah captured the broader vision behind this expansion. His remarks underlined a strategic ambition: to strengthen Qatar’s presence on the global equestrian map while celebrating heritage, excellence and innovation. The refreshed identity, reflecting the tour’s 10 rounds, is more than a visual update, it is a symbol of maturity and confidence.

None of this would be possible without venues of the highest calibre. Al Shaqab, widely regarded as one of the world’s finest equestrian facilities, remains the cornerstone of Qatar’s success. Its modern arenas, seamless logistics and athlete-focused design continue to attract elite competitors and governing bodies alike, reinforcing Doha’s standing as a premier destination for international sport.

Ticket sales for the opening rounds of the H H The Father Amir’s Cup have begun.
