During the holy month of Ramadan, the Cultural Village Katara has reaffirmed its role in the country as a cultural hotspot. With over 23 events planned for the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, the public, both young and old, may participate in a variety of programmes, games, and competitions that will put their physical, intellectual and sporting abilities to the test.
This week, Katara also launched the second edition of the Katara Award for Arabic Poetry (Mothers of the Believers), with the theme Aisha bint Abi Bakar Al Siddiq.
Participation in the Katara Award for Arabic Poetry is open to all from across the world from beginning of the first day of Ramadan, and the deadline for submissions is the 30th of Ramadan this year. The total value of the Katara Prize for Arabic Poetry is QR120,000 distributed over three categories — the first prize is QR60,000, second is QR40,000, and the third is QR20,000.
It also announced the annual opening of the Katara Short Story Competition with the topic “Environmental Sustainability” yesterday. The subject was chosen to stress the importance of environmental sustainability in preventing resource depletion or deterioration and ensuring long-term environmental quality.
Moreover, on Friday, the Katara Ramadan Beach Volleyball Championship 2023 began at Katara Beach and will run through April 9.
The 23 cultural, educational, and entertainment activities aim at various age groups also include the Islamic Stamps Exhibition at the Postal Museum in Building 22, the Fine Art and Photography Exhibition in Building 18, and cultural seminars on Arabic literature by the Katara Library for Arabic Novel in Building 48. The Wisdom Square will host a Ramadan-associated mural, and the Creativity Square will host the Storytellers Stories.
Religious activities at the Katara Mosque include lectures and a Quran memorising competition for male and female children born between 2009 and 2012. The events are set to begin on March 26 and will run weekly from Sunday to Thursday. On March 27, the World Theatre Day activities will focus on the Qatari theatre’s reality.
The Cultural Village Foundation, Katara also announced the launch of the broadcast of episodes of the Katara Prize for Holy Quran Recitation, in its sixth session, via Qatar TV, throughout the blessed month of Ramadan.
