Qatar's key role in Gaza relief

The State of Qatar has consistently played a pivotal role in providing relief to the Palestinian people and supporting their legitimate rights amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Since the beginning of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, Qatar has emphasized the crucial role of civil society in aiding the Palestinian people both during times of conflict and in the reconstruction phase.

In a speech delivered during the second session of the “Palestine and the Role of Civil Society” conference held in Cairo under the slogan “Rebuilding Gaza’s Social Fabric,” Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Tariq Ali Faraj Al Ansari, highlighted Qatar’s extensive relief efforts. These efforts, carried out in collaboration with the Arab Republic of Egypt, have been essential in alleviating the suffering of Gazans who have endured a full siege since 2007.

Qatar has continuously underscored the indispensable role of civil society organizations in responding to the dire humanitarian conditions caused by the occupation’s policies, which have systematically disrupted relief institutions and targeted aid workers striving to support defenseless Palestinians. Despite Israel’s obligations under international law to protect civilians and humanitarian workers, it persists in its brutal actions, even targeting those involved in civil society initiatives.

Reaffirming its unwavering commitment to the Palestinian cause, Qatar has provided and continues to provide essential humanitarian assistance through organizations such as the Qatar Red Crescent, Qatar Fund for Development, and Qatar Charity. These institutions, along with numerous volunteers working within Palestinian civil society organizations, have been instrumental in delivering aid to those in need across Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories.

Recognizing the urgent need for sustained support and relief, Qatar calls upon the international community to mobilize all forms of aid, reconstruction assistance, and emergency response initiatives for Gaza. To this end, Qatar established the Gaza Reconstruction Committee in October 2012 to oversee and implement projects aimed at mitigating the effects of the suffocating blockade and providing direct assistance to families in need.

Furthermore, the ambassador reaffirmed Qatar’s firm stance against the displacement of the Palestinian people and its continued support for their inalienable rights. Qatar remains steadfast in advocating for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital. The ambassador emphasized that achieving lasting stability in the Middle East depends on the implementation of the two-state solution, underscoring that this responsibility does not rest solely on Arab nations but on the global community as a whole.
