UNDER its slogan ‘Qatar deserves the best’, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) is fast completing different development projects either they are roads and infrastructure or related to 2022 FIFA World Cup. Ashghal’s Building Projects Department is also delivering projects well before stipulated time. Ashghal recently completed major works of South Al Wakra Health Center, implemented by the Building Projects Department, to serve about 360 visitors per day. This year, Ashghal will also deliver three more health centers including Al Khor Health Center, Ain Khalid Health Center, Al Sadd Health Centre and the National Health Laboratory. Last year, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) successfully completed several highways, and local road projects and infrastructure works in many areas. The operation and maintenance of road and drainage networks continued across the country as well. By the end of 2020, around 828 km of highways were completed by the Authority. Ashghal also completed about 90% of the outfall tunnel’s construction works within the Mesaimeer pumping station and the offshore outfall project and 95% of the sewage treatment plant project in Al Thakhira in 2020. The pace of construction works at recently-completed South Al Wakra Health Centre went in accordance with the set plan of the project despite the COVID-19 pandemic. The project took about 682,000 man-hours without lost-time injury; since Ashghal provides all safety precautionary measures for the workers deployed to the project. Ashghal has also completed main works of the Improvement of Main Roads in Al Nasr Area project. The completed works included the upgrade of 7km of main roads in Al Nasr area in addition to completion of 6 signalised intersections. The newly upgraded roads include Al Nasr Street, Al Mirqab Al Jadeed Street, Al Kinana Street and Mohamed Bin Qasim Street along with Al Syoul Street, Yaser bin Amar Street, Al Basateen Street, Zaid Al Khail Street and Al Ghotah Street. Meanwhile, Ashghal has also started works on the Roads and Infrastructure Development Project in Mebaireek Area which is as part of Ashghal’s plan to provide an integrated infrastructure, an advanced roads network and service facilities throughout the country. The project is located in Mebaireek, specifically South of Salwa Road, West of Energy Street, and North of Industrial Street 33. It aims to provide an internal road network and an integrated infrastructure that meets the requirements of the population and urban growth in the future.
