Qatar National Vision (QNV) 2030 aims to transform Qatar “into an advanced country by 2030, capable of sustaining its development and providing for a high standard of living for all of its people for generations to come.”
Driving this ambition are four pillars; human development, economic development, social development, and environmental development.
To achieve the country’s goals, the education sector has been a powerful tool to bring these lofty ambitions to fruition. Besides, the government support of the sector has facilitated steady development and growth for students and teachers. In 2022, the education sector received generous support from the government, reaching QR17.8bn, about 9% of the State’s budget.
Also, last year, the Minister of Education and Higher Education, H E Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi, announced four main focal points for developing the educational system in Qatar over the next eight years in the implementation of Qatar National Vision 2030.
Ahead of the new academic year 2023/24, the Minister of Education yesterday said the Ministry started intensive work to develop comprehensive policies related to the quality of student life, including their physical and psychological safety, social participation, and empowering students with disabilities and providing further communication with parents to participate in their children’s learning.
Addressing the annual educational forum, she added that new student support mechanisms would be introduced during the academic year 2023-2024 to further empower school principals in the decision-making process and make schools better attractive environments for students and teachers. According to the Minister, the success of Qatar’s educational system is reflected in its excellent outputs - integrated and balanced personalities with good behaviour, knowledge and skills that qualify students to be good citizens.
Furthermore, the Minister launched a training programme based on investing in human capital to boost teachers’ experiences in line with Qatar National Vision 2030. She added that the program offers Qatari public school teachers training in educationally advanced countries through classroom coexistence lessons in different learning environments with their peers in those countries, designed to enhance Qatari teachers’ professional growth and open up horizons for them to learn.
Over the last decade, Qatar has undertaken several initiatives and implemented reforms to modernise its educational system. Qatar plans to shift to a knowledge-based economy to enable social and economic progress with sustainable development across all sectors.
