The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 is set to get underway at the 60,000-seater Al Bayt Stadium today, marking the country’s success after 12 years of hardwork and determination. Not just in Qatar, it’s a day of joy and celebration for fans all across the region as Qatar stages the first-ever World Cup in the Middle East and the Arab world.  

H H The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani will inaugurate the opening ceremony ahead of the first match between hosts Qatar and Ecuador at the venue. FIFA President Gianni Infantino reiterated Qatar 2022, which is the most compact World Cup edition in modern history, will be the best ever.  

With Brazil touching down last night, all the 32 teams are in Qatar eyeing glory at the greatest sporting show on Earth. The Gulf state is now all set to deliver the promise of hosting the best World Cup edition ever it made after winning the bid to host the mega event in 2010. All arrangements in terms of security protocols, accommodation, transport and medical guidance are in place. Several team officials and players have praised World Cup facilities after their experience of training over the last week. 

The football showpiece will be fun-filled as superstars Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar and Robert Lewandowski are set to be seen in action during the 29-day gala. More than 90 entertainment activities across the country on the sidelines of the World Cup will make the country an unrivalled entertainment destination during the global fiesta.  

Al Bayt Stadium will host a sparkling opening ceremony inviting the world to come together in Qatar. The 30-minute show will be full of surprises, with the main act featuring a performance of Dreamers – another hit single on the FIFA World Cup Official Soundtrack – by celebrated South Korean pop star Jung Kook of BTS and Qatari singer Fahad Al Kubaisi.

The theme of the opening ceremony is a gathering for all mankind, bridging differences through humanity, respect and inclusion. Football allows us to come together as one tribe and the earth is the tent in which we all live. The seven-act programme will be led by world class talents that interlace Qatari tradition with worldwide culture and will include tributes to the 32 competing teams, previous FIFA World Cup hosts and event volunteers. 

Qatar, who are making their World Cup debut, are looking to double the joy of people in the country, with a win over Ecuador with head coach Felix Sanchez saying Al Annabi “will try to bring joy”.
