Record-breaking accomplishment

Yet another record-breaking accomplishment for Hamad International Airport, the gateway to Qatar and the world. Qatar’s aviation hub welcomed a record-high total of 10.7 million passengers in the third quarter this year, making it the busiest quarter and summer the airport has ever seen.

HIA is increasingly being recognized for its 5-star passenger experience and operational excellence. With passengers at the heart of the airport strategy, HIA unlocks the power of technology to deliver the airport of the future.

By employing cutting-edge smart technologies, automation and self-service, HIA provides a hassle-free experience for passengers combined with choice and flexibility. HIA served 3,700,729 passengers in July, 3,863,013 in August, and 3,157,086 in September. August was the busiest month ever recorded in HIA’s history, with July being the second busiest month ever recorded. These numbers are inclusive of passengers arriving, departing and transferring through HIA.

The airport’s state-of-the-art facilities and services, combined with the latest technology, are some of the reasons behind the increased passenger flow.  The airport currently serves over 165 destinations from Qatar and annually connects more than 35 million passengers to all corners of the world.

HIA’s drive for excellence has allowed for industry-leading transfer security screening, meaning shorter queuing times at security points which can accommodate up to 6,000 passengers during peak hours. HIA is also the first in the Mena region ready to accept Electronic Bag Tags, providing reduced time spent in queues, a simplified baggage drop process and increased relaxation time at the airport.

HIA is also undertaking expansion plans to meet the growing demand for air travel and enhance its position as the preferred gateway for travel. The expansion will increase HIAs capacity to more than 53 million passengers annually by 2022. In addition to the immediate benefits of increased space and capacity, the construction of the Airport City will also provide significant future investment opportunities including a free trade zone, office and business complex, and hotels.

HIAs drive to deliver excellence in operations, facilities and passenger experience has been recognized time and again.  In 2019, Skytrax acknowledged HIAs efforts in providing best-in-class services, presenting the airport with numerous awards and achievements including its award as the 4th Best Airport in the World. HIA is also currently a candidate for the “Best Airport in the World” award by Skytrax 2020.

Hamad International Airport has always been at the forefront in setting the standard for modern day airport experience ever since its launch in May 2014. The airport is gearing up to welcoming a rising number of travellers aboard Qatar’s state-of-the-art facility to experience a unique passenger journey into the world of the arts, culture and hospitality in the run up to FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
