In today’s evolving global economy, the success and competitiveness of a country’s economy are heavily based on a skilled and adaptable workforce. Workforce development programmes are crucial in shaping the economic landscape of any country or region. These programmes are designed to enhance the workforce’s skills, knowledge, and capabilities, ensuring they remain competitive, adaptable, and relevant in an ever-evolving job market.

According to the Qatar National Vision (QNV) 2030, the country aims to invest in its people so that all can participate fully in economic, social and political life. It also aims to produce a knowledge-based economy characterized by innovation; entrepreneurship; excellence in education; a world-class infrastructural backbone; the efficient delivery of public services; and transparent and accountable government.

The Ministry of Labour recently announced the launch of the first phase of the practical training program for Qataris from both genders, as well as those with Qatari mothers, as part of the activities of the National Programme for the Nationalisation of jobs in the private sector, which is organized by the ministry in cooperation with companies in the insurance sector, to increase rates of nationalization in them.

The programme offers joint theoretical training between the Ministry, Qatar General Insurance & Reinsurance Company and General Takaful Insurance Company, while three companies from the insurance sector are participating in the practical training: Qatar Islamic Insurance Group, Qatar Insurance Company (QIC) and Doha Takaful. It has become essential that Qatari society acquires the knowledge, skills, and capabilities to pave the way for the country’s economic development. Hence, the most significant change for Qatar and its citizens relates to national labour, as sustainable economic growth requires a skilled and knowledgeable workforce, especially in the country’s diversification drive.

According to the Ministry, the first phase of the training programme allows the participants to learn about the nature of work and jobs in insurance companies, their various fields of work and their importance in strengthening the national economy. This will, in turn, increase job seekers’ demand for employment in insurance sector companies.

Participants will be given theoretical training for three days and practical training at the headquarters of one of the companies participating in the programme for seven days.

The practical training programme will allow the participants to hold direct interviews with recruitment officials in the five participating companies in the first phase so that job seekers can quickly find a job. This latest initiative constitutes an investment in human capital and facilitates knowledge transfer for future generations of Qataris. It plays a significant role in the creation of a knowledge-based economy.
