Doha once again is attracting top European football clubs which are returning to the Qatari capital for their winter training camps. German giants Bayern Munich concluded their six-day training camp to Doha recently while French champions Paris Saint-Germain will be up next as they will arrive later this week.
The Bayern Munich players who represented their respective national teams at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 were also part of the Bavarian squad that attended the training camp from January 6 to 12. The players underwent intense training while the reigning German champions also held several activities, leading up to the resumption of the regular 2022-2023 season. The team was led by coach Julian Nagelsmann with 21-player squad including Daley Blind, Alphonso Davies, Dayot Upamecano, Thomas Muller, Joshua Kimmich, Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry.
Qatar Airways, the official airline partner of FC Bayern Munich, hosted the German side. “In December 2022, Qatar Airways played a key role as the Official Airline of the Journey during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, operating nearly 14,000 flights during the tournament. With the start of 2023, we are gaining momentum by welcoming our very own partners Bayern Munich,” said Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive H E Akbar Al Baker.
Meanwhile, PSG will travel to Doha on January 18 before their visit to Riyadh. The tour will be an opportunity for the Parisians to meet their Qatari and MENA supporters, train at the iconic Khalifa International Stadium and take part in a series of activations organised with the Club’s partners present in Qatar, such as Qatar Airways, ALL, Qatar Tourism, QNB, Ooredoo and Aspetar.
The trip to Qatar, following the successful organisation of the 2022 FIFA World Cup – is a new opportunity to shine the spotlight on the innovative features of the country’s sports facilities. Over the last ten years, Qatar has welcomed various PSG tours, such as the Qatar Handball Tour in 2014 and 2015, the Qatar Ladies Tour in 2015, and the Qatar Tour in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2022.
Qatar has also started hosting the international events in the new year as Doha staged the King of the Court Crown Series Finals, where the best in World’s beach volleyball competed at the Aspire Zone for the second year in a row.
Among the local events, the QNB Stars League is in full swing after the World Cup break as clubs are fighting for points with an eye on the Falcon Shield. The horse racing and show jumping events are also underway ahead of the eagerly-awaited events that include the H H The Amir Sword Festival which will take place next month.
