Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani’s ongoing visit to Kazakhstan will take ties between the two countries to broader horizons. Apart from discussing the bilateral cooperation, the Amir will also participate in the sixth summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) today. The conference will bring together leaders from across Asia to discuss challenges facing the continent.
Qatar and Kazakhstan are discussing ways to boost ties in trade, investment and other fields. H H the Amir held talks with Kazakh President H E Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and witnessed the signing of a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding between the two countries. These included an agreement on the encouragement and reciprocal protection of investments, which will provide strong impetus to the existing cooperation between the two countries and lead to achieving more joint accomplishments.
The two sides also signed a protocol on amendments to an agreement on the abolition of visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and special passports, as well as an MoU in the field of trade. The two sides also signed an agreement for cooperation in higher education and research, an MoU to promote tourism and hold business events, as well as MoUs for cooperation in agriculture and diplomatic training. Doha and Astana are also exploring avenues to enhance cooperation in healthcare, standardisation and metrology, food supplies and security, and mining. A number of MoUs between the private sector companies of the two countries were also signed during the visit.
Qatar-Kazakh Joint Committee is working to explore economic and investment opportunities in the two countries. The committee has had held five sessions, the latest of which was in 2020. A delegation from Qatar comprising several investment agencies will visit Kazakhstan to discuss the appropriate investment opportunities in the Kazakh economy, the Amir said.
Tourism is a key area in which Qatar and Kazakhstan can collaborate and explore opportunities. Qatar also expects to attract a large number of fans from Kazakhstan for the FIFA World Cup later this year. Qatar Airways operates direct passenger and cargo flights between the two countries. The Kazakh President praised Qatar’s regional and global role in politics and economy, especially its endeavors for peace around the world.
H H the Amir’s visit will take Qatar-Kazakhstan relations to new heights ahead of the 30th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic ties between Doha and Astana.
