Hamad Port, Qatar’s gateway to the world, has become the busiest hub of regional trade within a short span of time after its inauguration a few years ago.

The port has not only attracted regional trade but also set new records in safety, sustainability etc. The port not only handles trade goods but also serving country’s food security goals.

In August this year, the Strategic Food Security Facilities’ Terminal at Hamad Port had received the first vessel loaded with two LHM 280 mobile harbor cranes and their accessories. The SFSF Terminal at Hamad Port, on an area of approximately 53 hectares at an estimated cost of QR 1.6 billion, supports the country’s self-sufficiency plans, aiming to create sustainable development for the coming generations.

Qatar’s share in overall Middle East trade is expected to significantly increase with the robust technological infrastructure supporting Hamad Port’s second container terminal (CT2).

Now on Thursday ahead of Qatar 2022, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani inaugurated the Hamad Port Visitor Center. The Prime Minister and Minister of Interior also launched the Port Community System (PCS) “Mwanina”, which is an electronic platform that allows a smart and secure exchange of information between concerned persons and authorities related to the port, and contributes to the improvement and development of import and development operations, making them more efficient and less costly.

The Hamad Port Visitor Center will support the country’s efforts in preserving this historical heritage through its integrated facilities that embody all aspects of the Qatari maritime heritage and its development over time, towards achieving the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030.

It will also highlight Hamad Port, the vision, resources, commitment and great determination to complete one of the largest and most prestigious projects in the country. The center is distinguished by the presence of an aquarium for marine life, which includes 17 aquariums of different sizes, and contains 80 species of fish and marine organisms, with a total of 3063 marine organisms. It will also play an important role in disseminating marine culture and knowledge for visitors, as it contains rare fish that connect them mentally with the Umm Al Houl environment, in which Hamad Port is located in particular, and Qatar’s marine environment in general.

The Port Community System (PCS) “Mwanina” will support green initiatives by reducing reliance on paper, eliminating manual intervention, delays and errors that result from it.
