Qatar government and Qatari people have always been very generous in helping nations facing natural calamities. Qatar has always stood at the forefront in assisting different countries and their people in times of need.
Last night, in a fundraising campaign ‘Oun W Sanad’ for the affectees by the earthquake in Turkiye and Syria, over QR168m were collected. The campaign was on live transmission on Qatar TV.
Separately, under the drive, many points for collecting cash and in-kind donations have also been set up at a number places across the country including Cultural Village Foundation - Katara, Souq Waqif and Aspire Zone Park among others.
Immediately after devastating earthquake in Turkiye and Syria, an air bridge was established between Qatar and Turkiye through which aid id continuously being provided to the victims of earthquake. The Qatari search and rescue team which reached Turkiye immediately after the calamity managed to pull out two survivors from the rubble of a collapsed building in southern Turkiye.
The Qatari International Search and Rescue Group of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) arrived in Turkiye on Tuesday coinciding with the arrival of the first flights of the air bridge allocated by Qatar to support Turkiye after the deadly earthquake.
The group has started managing the coordination cell for the operations of search and rescue teams for international organizations in the Turkish province of Gaziantep.
Qatar Fund For Development (QFFD), in cooperation with Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) and Qatar Charity (QC), sending urgent aid to earthquake-affected people in Turkiye and Syria, through a Qatar Emiri Air Force air bridge.
The ‘Oun W Sanad’ campaign was organised by Qatar Media Corporation (QMC), Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities (RACA), Qatar Red Crescent (QRCS) and Qatar Charity (QC) for providing the necessary relief assistance such as shelter materials, food, health and hygiene materials to ill-fated people.
Over QR168m donations were made by government institutions, individuals, banks and companies operating in the country.
Ambassador of Turkiye to Qatar, H E Dr. Mustafa Goksu, thanked government and people of Qatar for their generous support to earthquake affected people in Turkiye and Syria. “I would like to thank QMC, Qatar TV and other organisations for organising this fundraising campaign which is very valuable for us,” said the Ambassador.
He said that Turkish people will be overwhelmed to see that people in Qatar stand with them at this tough time which is more valuable than any amount of the money.
