The participation of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in three important summits in Riyadh yesterday and Amir’s discussions with the President of China have opened new avenues for enhanced cooperation between Qatar, China and Arab countries.
Three important summits were held in Riyadh yesterday, namely the 43rd session of the Supreme Council of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC), the Riyadh Gulf-China Summit for Cooperation and Development and the Riyadh Chinese-Arab Summit for Cooperation and Development.
H H the Amir also held an official talks session with President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping. The Chinese President congratulated H H the Amir for the success of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, praising the organization of the event, and wished bilateral relations further progress and development.
The session also dealt with discussing the bilateral strategic partnership between both countries and the means to enhance them in all fields, particularly economic, investment, energy, and industry fields.
The Amir also participated in the Riyadh Gulf-China Summit for Cooperation and Development. The Amir also participated with his brothers Their Majesties and Their Highnesses leaders of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) and heads of delegations in the 43rd session of the Supreme Council summit.
The GCC countries are a geographical axis linking Asia, Africa and Europe for their prominent geographical advantage, and are a source of energy that feeds the global economy because they are rich with energy resources, where the oil and gas reserves constitute 30% and 20% of the world’s reserves respectively. The volume of trade exchange between the two sides exceeded $230bn and imports of crude oil from the GCC countries exceeded the threshold of 200 million tons in 2021.
Meanwhile the Arab countries and China enjoy a high degree of economically complementary advantages, as the volume of trade exchange between the Arab countries and China increased from 1970 to 2010 by more than 620 times. In 2021, mutual direct investment stocks between the Arab and Chinese sides amounted to $27bn, and the volume of trade exchange between the two sides amounted to $330.3bn in the first three quarters of 2022.
The Supreme Council of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf praised Qatar’s success in hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and the positive impact it has on the human legacy and its civilizational, cultural, and intellectual rapprochement among world peoples.
